This is a project by Sawadeesign team with a criterion: “animals have the right to live, to be free and protected”. The PeT Shelter project is designed and built inside a pagoda located on the suburb of Ho Chi Minh city, where people usually abandon dogs and cats in front of pagoda gate.
To express our desire to make an ideal community and enhance the value of life of the animal, we do not only want to help the them have the opportunity to be cared and develop in the best way, but also can help the nuns save time taking care of them. In response to this, we have designed a clear function chain based on a research into behavior, interest, and health of the animals. Along with that, it create a convenient path for the nuns to commute from their kitchen to the feeding and hygiene area.
The building is made up from the combination of circular function blocks, which create softness, stimulate the sense of curiosity, movement and activity of animals. We used the square grid combines with the trees available at the pagoda grounds to subdivide the living space for dogs and cats, ensuring natural ventilation to help the health of animals. At the same time to protect animals from bad guys living at around this area.
By experience of designing and loving animals, we aim at raising the awareness of protector and responsibility for animals. People desire freedom, love and animals also have as much right to live as human beings.
